Gabriele Mitelli was born in Brescia, Italy, in 1988.
He studies with maestro Beppe Rusconi in Brescia and later with maestro Markus Stockhausen in Cologne, Germany. Since 2012 he performed with some of the most influent players of the jazz and edge music, including Ralph Alessi, Jeff Parker, Rob Mazurek, Markus Stockhausen, Chris Speed, Gianluca Petrella, Simone Graziano, Alexander Hawkins, Giovanni Guidi, Cristiano Calcagnile, Beppe Scardino, Tino Tracanna and many others. He also works as artistic director and has brought in Italy some of the most important jazz players from the international scene. In 2017, the renowned music magazine Musica Jazz appoints him as Best New Italian Talent.
2017 – Mitelli wins a AIR call for bids as artist in residence and publishes his second album for the recording company Parco della Musica in Rome, with O.N.G. Crash, played in a quintet with American saxophonist Ken Vandermark. During another project for artist in residence in Locarno, arranged by Novara Jazz, he records a duo with Alexander Hawkins, English pianist who works with Louis Moholo, Rob Mazurek, Chad Taylor and many others. They also play together during Novara Jazz Festival and Lagarina Jazz festival. With Calcagnile and Mirra, Mitelli produces VER, a project for Ground Music Festival that includes Nino Sammartino at the vinyls and the artists union Unzalab at the projectors (16mm and super8).
2016 – Grove&Move, Mitelli’s second duo album with vibraphonist Pasquale Mirra, is in the top 10 albums according to European Jazz Chart. Mitelli starts working with Cristina Donà on her new tour and plays at the most important jazz festivals in Italy (Torino Jazz Festival, Young Jazz, Pavia Jazz Festival, Novara Jazz Festival, Jazz&wine for Peace…).
2014 – Mitelli publishes his first solo album, Hymnus Ad Nocturnum, produced by Parco Della Musica in Rome. Later that year he plays with Giovanni Guidi’s Unknown Rebel Band feat. Gianluca Petrella.
2012 – Mitelli performes at La Fabbrica del Jazz in Schio with a radical improvisation project. In October, he is in Poznan (Poland), performing with painter Mark Maksimovich, sculptor Leszek Trzybinski, Alberto Cavenati at the guitar and Davidu Poniekąd at the synthesizer.
Mitelli is co-founder of the artists union RES - Ricerca Euristica Sonora, a collective work of improvisation including 30 musician in Brescia, Bergamo and Milan. He is also founder of SocialJazz Club and New Vision festivals. He worked with the city of Brescia and association Jazz on the Road to build ClouBs festival. In 2017, he is creator and artistic director of GroundMusic Festival.
